Marvin B. Klein, Ph.D., Manager, Laser Ultrasonics Product Group, and formerly the
President of Lasson Technologies, received his B.A. and B.S. in Electrical Engineering from
Brown University, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of
California, Berkeley. Until 1973, he was at Bell Laboratories, Holmdel, N.J. In 1973, he joined
the Optical Physics Laboratory at Hughes Research Laboratories. From 1987 until 1995 he was
Manager of the Nonlinear Materials and Devices Department at Hughes. At Hughes, he worked
on the application of lasers for nonlinear frequency conversion, phase conjugation, holographic
storage, optical limiting, diode laser power combining, and laser ultrasonics. He left Hughes in
1997 to form Lasson Technologies, whose focus was on process control and in-service
inspection using laser ultrasonics. He joined IOS at the time of the purchase of Lasson in
November, 2006. Dr. Klein has authored over 75 publications (including 19 on laser ultrasonics)
and has been issued 16 patents. He is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America.
Homayoon Ansari, Ph.D., Senior Product Engineer, received his Ph.D. in Electrical
Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1988, an
M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California at Santa Barbara
in 1982, and a B.S. in Engineering Physics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1981.
His dissertation research focused on femtosecond laser pulse generation and measurement. From
1988 to 1995, he was a research engineer at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where he
developed key technologies for long range optical communications acquisition, tracking, and
pointing systems. From 1995 to 1999, he worked at Hewlett-Packard developing commercial
imaging products including image sensors and optics for digital cameras. His recent work
experience includes completing a NASA SBIR Phase II project by developing miniaturized lowcost
Earth horizon sensors, and product management of compact camera modules for cellular
telephones. In August 2007, he joined IOS as a Senior Scientist. He has authored publications in
optical communications acquisition, tracking, and pointing systems, acousto-optical spectrum
analyzers, and femtosecond lasers, and has received seven certificates of recognition from
NASA.
